About Communities & Forums
A forum answer rarely stands alone. It may depend on the original question, a correction further down the thread or the date of the software release being discussed. A reader who sees only the most quotable sentence can miss the part that makes it true.
Useful public community pages preserve the relationship between questions, replies and updates. They give discussions stable addresses and make it clear which spaces are public. Private member areas have a different purpose; improving discovery should not require exposing conversations participants expected to remain within the group.
Read the relevant thread before relying on a reply: the scan does not assess its accuracy or moderation. Restricted conversations remain outside our public web scan.
What to look for
Use these questions when reading the sites themselves. They are guidance for this category, not additional scoring checks.
The question stays with the answer
Replies need their surrounding context. A useful thread preserves the question and makes follow-ups or corrections reachable.
Dates and thread structure
A reader should be able to follow the conversation and distinguish a current reply from guidance written for an older situation.
Public boundaries made explicit
A community should explain what is public and what requires membership. A directory score is not a reason to expose restricted discussions.
Stable discussion links
Individual thread URLs and navigable archives let readers return to a source. Content available only inside a private chat is outside a public web scan.
Frequently asked questions
Do you read private groups or member messages?+
No. The scanner does not join groups, sign in or inspect private conversations. It works with permitted public web evidence.
Does a score mean community answers are correct?+
No. Readability is separate from accuracy or consensus. Review the thread, its dates and any supporting sources before relying on an answer.
Can a community keep some sections private?+
Yes. Public discovery pages and private member spaces can serve different purposes. Our report concerns only the evidence collected by the scan.
Questions about scores, scans and listings in general are answered in the FAQ.
